About ARDC
ARES/RACES of Delaware County is an all-volunteer force of licensed, trained Amateur Radio operators who offer their skills and equipment for use during times of disaster or emergency.

Working with colleagues in Bucks, Chester, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, ARDC can provide critical communications capability when public service or commercial systems fail--as they did in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

Our ARDC Station Call Sign is W3AEC.

  • ARES
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) operates under the auspices of the American Radio Relay League and was first organized in 1935 as the Amateur Radio Emergency Corps.  Since then, ARES has become a vital member of the Nation's emergency response efforts.  In 2003, the Department of Homeland Security recognized ARES as a vital component of the new Citizen Corps.  Since then, numerous other governmental agencies have renewed their relationships with ARES.

  • RACES

The Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) is sanctioned by the Federal Communications Commission under the jurisdiction of FEMA and local emergency management agencies.  RACES was originally envisioned as a component of the Civil Defense network, permitting select Amateurs to operate during time of war while civilian radio communications would be prohibited.

The History of RACES, by George Hart K6RXU.

(For more information, please contact Hal Frantz, KA3TWG, Skywarn Coordinator.)

Emergency Communications Capabilities
ARDC maintains an operational presence at the Delaware County Emergency Operations Center, which features a fully-equipped station capable of HF, VHF, UHF voice and digital communications.

Federally Licensed Operators
All ARDC volunteers are federally tested and licensed Amateur Radio Service operators.  Many of our members have related military, professional or volunteer experience in emergency management and communications techniques.  All civic-minded Amateurs are encouraged to complete a series of Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Courses offered by the ARRL.

Volunteer
If you are an FCC-licensed Amateur Radio Service operator with a strong desire to serve your community during times of disaster or emergency, you are welcome to join us
